Measuring to improve environmental performance on farms

Water Quantity: Demonstrate and develop implementation criteria and guidance for new and innovative methods or procedures for on-farm irrigation flow measurement used for irrigation scheduling, or irrigation performance evaluation. Water Quality: Develop systems to better manage nitrogen fertilization to reduce nitrate leaching potential into groundwater. The project works with growers to track nitrogen inputs relative to crop uptake throughout the growing season to evaluate nitrogen use efficiency and potential for nitrogen movement off the farm (either through leaching or runoff). Technical assistance will support improvements to nitrogen use efficiency to reduce potential leaching of nitrate to the groundwater.
